Our Favorite African Skit Makers:

Mr. Macaroni (Nigerian):

Mr. Macaroni is a (rightfully) popular comedian, actor, and a political and social activist. He is one of our absolute favorite African skit makers because of this character’s many failed attempts at cheating on his wife (Mummy Wa), and his catchphrases “ Hello, freaky freaky”, “Ooin, you’re doing well”, and “Put your account number here“.  We also love the many episodes that feature him being introduced to yet another one of Motunde’s, his daughter, love interest.

We find Mr. Macaroni’s skits to be humorous and socially conscious, blending satire with relatable scenarios.

Aproko Doctor (Nigerian):

Aproko Doctor is a real-life medical doctor and social media personality who has gained ample recognition for his entertaining and informative medical tips. This popular doctor couldn’t have chosen a more befitting comedic name as Aproko* is a Nigerian pidgin word that means someone who pokes his or her nose in other people’s affairs.

He is on our list of favorite African skit makers because of how he discusses health-related topics humorously, sharing valuable medical advice, debunking health myths, and educating the public on common health concerns, lifestyle choices, and preventive measures.

Anne Kansiime (Ugandan):

Anne Kansiime is a brilliant and talented comedian and actress that is famous for her energetic performances. She has rightfully gained international acclaim for her ability to turn ordinary situations into hilarious anecdotes and we love her for it.

Maraji (Nigerian):

Maraji is a versatile African skit maker that we have come to love for her ability to portray various characters in her skits. Her humor cuts across different aspects of everyday life. We have found that her comedy seems to resonate with audiences of various ages.

Craze Clown (Nigerian):

Craze Clown is one of the more seasoned kids on the block when it comes to African skit makers. He has successfully switched from being a medical doctor to a comedy sensation. He often features as the character, Papa Ade, a stereotypical Nigerian dad with very low tolerance for anything seemingly untoward. The hilarious and often relatable ways he chose to discipline his son, Ade, is why he is on our list of favorite African skit makers.

Frank Donga(Nigerian):

Frank Donga is one of our favorite African skit makers for good reason. The character, Frank Donga is loved for his distinctive messy and silly appearance. He is famous for humorously depicting the challenges and frustrations associated with job hunting in Nigeria. We also love this character as the tenant who banters with baby landlord, his landlord’s young son, and gets outmatched every time. His comedic timing and ability to address social issues in a light-hearted manner is noteworthy.

Lasizwe Dambuza (South African):

Lasizwe is a South African-born social media personality who has made a significant impact in the skit-making scene. His humorous take on everyday situations resonates with audiences and explains why he keeps rising in popularity.

Twyse (Nigerian):

Twyse is a comedian that’s worth his weight in gold, a brilliant actor, and one of our favorite African skit makers. His versatility in creating skits that mostly involve multiple characters, where he skillfully portrays different personalities in the same scene(s).

We love him for his wit, relatability, his ability to effortlessly switch between roles, and his comedic timing.

Taaooma (Nigerian):

Taaooma’s skits tell relatable and hilarious tales that have helped her to emerge as one of the top African skit makers. Her ability to portray everyday scenarios with brilliant comedic twists resonates with a large and diverse audience.

All of the brilliant African skit makers listed above and many others are gifts to this generation and we celebrate them for sharing their creativity and talents with the world.

Here’s to lives filled with laughter and celebrations????

With love, Phoenix.
